India, Sri Lanka start talks trade agreement

India and Sri Lanka have begun preliminary discussions on an Economic and Technical Cooperation Agreement (ETCA), which the two countries hope to sign by the year end, Sri Lankan government officials said here on Wednesday.
The four-member Indian delegation, which arrived in the island nation on Tuesday to discuss the ETCA agreement, is led by Bhupinder Singh Bhalla, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce. The talks will be held over a period of two days.
Officials said during the talks, both sides will only explore the broad contours of the ETCA in terms of what areas it should cover and what it should avoid.
