An unbroken 239-run opening stand by Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay guided India to make a solid start on the first day of the lone Test match against Bangladesh at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah on Wednesday. India were at the stumps with 239 for no loss.
Shikhar Dhawan remained undefeated with 150 runs. His 158-ball innings was laced with 21 fours. It was Shikhar Dhawan’s third Test century. He touched the 100-run landmark playing 101 balls.
Murali Vijay, the other opener remained unbeaten with 89 runs. His 178-ball innings was studded with eight fours and a sixer. It was Vijay’s 11th Test half century. Vijay fulfilled his 50 runs using 98 balls. Even the afternoon rain which robbed 24 overs play could stop Indian openers to put a record opening partnership in a very aggressive manner.
The play was halted for four hours before the lunch break due to rain with as the touring side scoring 107 for no loss in 23.3 overs.
Bangladesh bowlers did not get any wickets but the fielders entertained the spectators throngh their respectable performances. The bowlers or the fielders did not concede any extra run.
