Former champions India reached the semifinals of the ICC World Twenty20 with all win record beating Australia by 73 runs in their 4th and last Super-10 match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Sunday.
Replying to India’s modest total of 159 for 7 in 20 overs, Australia were bundled out cheaply for 86 runs in 16.2 overs, their lowest-ever total in World T20 history.
Only three Australian batsmen-David Warner (19), Glenn Maxwell (23) and Brad Hodge (13) — were notable Australian batsmen reaching the double figure.
Indian famed bowler Ravichandran Ashwin bowled devastatingly to grab four wickets for 11 runs in his 3.2 overs spell and was adjudged man of the match. Amit Mishra took two wickets for 13 runs in three overs.
Earlier, sent in to bat first, India posted the total riding on two down dependable batsman Yuvraj Singh who scored 60 runs off 43 balls with five fours and four sixes before Singh was caught by Glenn Maxwell off a Shane Watson delivery.
Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored the team’s 2nd highest 24 runs facing 20 balls with afour and a six while Virat Kohli made 23 runs from 22 deliveries including two fours and a six.
Top order Ajinkya Rahane added 19 runs off 16 balls featuring two boundaries.
Brad Hodge, Glenn Maxwell,J ames Muirhead, Doug Bollinger, Mitchell Starc and Shane Watson took one wicket each for 13, 20, 24, 24, 36 and 36 runs respectively.
