Gonoshasthaya Kendra Trustee Dr. Zafrullah Chowdhury on Wednesday said, India has committed an international crime by opening the sluice gates of Gajoldoba barrage without information to Bangladesh.
“Sunamganj and Sylhet are flooded due to the sudden onrush of water from India. Besides, India has opened the sluice gates of the Gajoldoba barrage without our knowledge. We could not reach diplomatic solution here,” he said. Zafrullah Chowdhury said this while addressing a citizen dialogue held in Gonoshasthaya Kendra in the capital organised by Amar Bangladesh (AB) party, with party member-secretary Majibur Rahman in the chair.
“So long the Teesta water sharing treaty takes place, India has to provide the information of all its barrages to Bangladesh. Otherwise, the normal relations with India should be severed. Bangladesh has become the fourth income source of India. We have saved India in many ways,” Chowdhury said.
He has also urged the Jamaat-e-Islami party to seek apology from the people and said all the parties have united in the upcoming days for the democratic movement.
Drawing attention of the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said, “Instead of wasting money for the rally of 10 lakh people on the bank of Padma, you should stand beside the people in Sylhet region.”
Political analyst Prof Dr Dilara Chowdhury said, “Do we have a government that will think of the people? A politician is one who can feel the pulse of the people. In the last 50 years we have created divisions among people.”
