Times of India :
India has cleared 61 ‘border haats’ on the border with Bangladesh, reports the ‘Times of India’.
But the report did not specify the locations where the border haats have been cleared.
It said that the final clearance for these ‘border haats’ have come from the home ministry after due consultations with the Border Security Force (BSF).
The BSF, the report said, is keen on more ‘border haats’ and legitimate trade because that would help them focus on checking critical contraband smuggling.
At the moment, there are only five ‘border haats’ on the 4,096 km India-Bangladesh border.
The BSF is also finalising the road access India has committed to provide Bangladesh border guards for travelling between remote border posts.
In many sectors, the Indian roads are better maintained and connection to border posts of Bangladesh through them are easier.
During the recent visit of Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to Delhi, India agreed to provide Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) use of Indian roads to access their remote border posts.
