India and Bangladesh have unanimously decided to setup a joint working group to monitor and exchange of information to counter terrorism and communalism.
“We have agreed to develop a MoU to share information and setting up a joint working group immediately. It will monitor and disseminate information,” said Bangladesh Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu in New Delhi on Friday. Inu who had come to India with a high level delegation
called on India’s Minister for Information and Broadcasting Venkiah Naidu.
The Bangladeshi minister also met New Delhi based think-tanks and intellectuals. He said that terrorism and communalism is a political phenomenon and “not at all a law and order issue”.
“Terrorism and communalism could be pushed back with right and proper flow of information,” he said.
Quoting Naidu, Inu said that time has come to combat terrorism in a multi dimensional way.
Inu said that, India and Bangladesh will jointly produce a documentary on Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. “To combat destruction of history and stop false propaganda, we (India-Bangladesh) will jointly produce a documentary of 1971 Liberation War. Later on, Feature Film on the Liberation War will also be made,” he said. The documentary will commemorate the 100th Birth Anniversary of Bangabandhu in 2020 and 50th years of Liberation War in 2021. “We will rediscover Bangladesh and we will rediscover history. It will destroy terrorism and communalism too,” Inu said.
He said that India government has been asked to provide details of all 8,000 Indian soldiers who have sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Bangladesh. “All the 8,000 Indian soldiers will be recognised who stood for the Liberation War,” said the visiting Bangladeshi minister. He said that India and Bangladesh will also organise film festivals in each others’ country. Referring to the issue of terrorism, Inu said that terrorism in Bangladesh has connection with Jamaat-e-Islami and Pakistan’s ISI. He, however, ruled out any IS connection in the recent attacks in Bangladesh. “Terrorism in Bangladesh is home-grown. And of the 43 attacks on bloggers and social activists that took place in the last few months, investigation shows that 90 percents attacks has roots to Jamaat or Chhatra Shibir,” said Inu adding “anybody showing a black flag (read IS symbol) does not ascertain the IS connection.”
