Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin has said the independence of Bangladesh was not limited to an armed struggle of nine months. It is a blood-stained milestone of long struggle of Bangalees starting from the Language Movement. He came up with these remarks while inaugurating a two-day long Independence Day celebration program at Nagar Bhaban’s KB Abdus Satter auditorium in Chattogram on Monday.
He said, “Some people think the history of Bangalees’ struggle from emancipation was limited to a war of nine months. It means the denial of long struggle of Bangalees and undermining the successive leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for long 24 years.” Independence Festival Celebration Council Member Secretary Abdul Mannan Ferdous presided over the inaugural program.
Youths driving force to build Bangabandhu’s Sonar Bangla: Minister: Education Minister Dr.Dipu Moni said , youths are the driving force to build Bangabandu’s Sonar Bangla.
The youth society of the country devoted their lives to build a prosperous country including participation in language movement, great liberation war and their after nation building activities.
Dr Dipu Moni disclosed it while addressing the first convocation of Port City University at a posh community hall in the city today as chief guest. Education Minister said after liberation from occupation forces , Bangabandhu called upon the youth society to build a prosperous country.
But after his assassination in 1975 , the youth society became guardian less for which the country legs behind than expectations.After taking responsibilities of building the nation by the daughter of the father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Hasina again reformed the youths in nation building activities.
The Minister called upon the universities to follow the existing university laws and to give emphasis on research based education aimed at upgrading the quality of university education. She also calls for sustaining the stable political environment side by side academic studies and to remain alert against ill forces of the politics. Deputy Minister for Water Resources Ministry and founder of PCIU and Chairman of Board of Truistees Enamul Hoque Shamim, Deputy Minister for Education Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel and Chairman of University Grants commission Prof. Abul Mannan were present in the convocation as special guests.
Vice chancellor of PCIU Prof. Dr. Nurul Anowar presided over the convocation ceremony . Former chairman of UGC Prof. Emirates Dr. AK Azad Chowdhury graced the occasion as convocation speaker. In first convocation, 2,088 students have awarded with degree .
Besides, 7 students given chancellor goldmedal and 12 students awarded with Chairman gold medal.
