Independence has to be made meaningful for unity and peace

What would have been our 50th Independence and National Day celebrations will instead be spent in nothing more than social isolation due to the effects of the COVID-19 virus worldwide. We have not been lucky to have experienced leadership to move in right direction. The bureaucracy has taken over and hopes and aspirations of the people are being marginalised. There are problems piling up and now are totally disorganised for facing the pandemic.
The mismanagement is so deep that we have to seek help from the armed forces although the disease has not spread or detected in a big way.
It is not all failures but after so many years we have not become used to following a system of government that works. We have divided the people that maintained unity all along.
We have to appreciate that disciplined police is imperative for peace and order. Only the bureaucracy had this dangerous idea that police should be used politically as a force of fear to run the country.
Let us learn from the past experience and not be blind. In a free country no government can succeed using police as political force. Free people is not free if they have to live in fear and cannot have an accountable government.
We have a people’s Constitution. Let us learn to follow the arrangement of government made compulsory therein.
