The Independence Day Open Wrestling competition began on Tuesday at Sheikh Russel Roller Skating Complex in the city.
FM Iqbal Bin Anwar, operative director head of games and sports of Walton, formally inaugurated the two-day meet as chief guest.
Some two hundred men’s and women’s wrestlers from eight teams are taking part in the 16 weight categories – eight of men’s and eight of women’s – in the competition.
The men’s categories are 57, 61, 65, 70, 75, 85, 97 and 125 while the women’s categories are 48, 51, 55, 59, 63, 70, 75 and 80.
The two best players from men’s and women’s team will be given cash award of Taka 10,000.
The participating men’s and women’s teams are Border Guard Bangladesh, Bangladesh Army Bangladesh Ansar and Bangladesh Police.
