The 45th Independence and National Day was celebrated here with due respect on Thursday.
The programmes include heralded with 31 gun salute at police prade ground, placing of floral wreaths at Shaheed Minar early in the morning, National flag were hoisted atop public and private buildings. The buildings were illuminated and the town’s important streets and points were decorated with colorful banners and festoons.
March past by police ansar, school students and other organisations, screening of documentary on liberation war and reception to freedom fighters were the main features of the day. All the government officials including DC Narsingdi Abul Hana Murshad Jaman, SP Narsingdi Amena Begum, ADC general Suraiya Begum, ADC (Rev) Kamal Hossain, Muktijoddha commander Mothalaeb Pathan, Civil surgeon Dr Putul Roy, ADM Zinat Rahana, NDC Saiyed Sumsul Tabriz.
The local Shishu Academy also organised essay and recitation of poem competition on the occasion.
