The Independence Day Karate competition began on Tuesday at the National Sports Council Gymnasium.
This year competition is being organised by Bangladesh Karate Federation.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Sri Biren Sikder MP, formally inaugurated the two-day meet as chief guest.
On the first day of the competition girls’ child single kata category, Joyanti Biswas of Rajshahi (8-12 year), won gold medal in Laila Biswas of the same team bagged silver while Saida Binte Emu of BSKU collected bronze medal.
In the boys’ (8-12) single kata category, Naimul Islam Niaji of BSKU won gold, Sheikh Habib of Mirpur City Club secured silver while Nahian of the same club bagged bronze medal.
In the cadet class boys’ group (13-16 years), minus 35 kg kumi category, Ashab Hossain of Bangladesh Karate Do Association won gold, Ronny Islam of Rajshahi Karate Academy bagged silver while Asif Ali of Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothistan secured bronze medal.
On the other hand, junior men’s (17-18 years) single kata category, Proshanto Biswas of Rajshahi Karate Academy secured gold, Bijoy Murmo of the same team bagged silver while Hasan Ahmed of Chandpur Karate Academy collected bronze medal.
