Bangladesh Ansar & Village Defence Party emerged the champions in the women’s division of the Independence Day Handball Competition defeating Bangladesh Police Handball Club by 37-25 goals in the final at the Shaheed Captain M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium on Sunday. Bangladesh Police finished runners-up in the handball meet. The handball competitions for men and women were held marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Ansar led the first half by 15-14 goals.
Alpona of Bangladesh Ansar & Village Defence Party top-scored with 11 goals, while Rubina of Bangladesh Police Handball Club netted 11 goals.
Meanwhile, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) became the champions in the men’s division after edged past Bangladesh Police Handball Club by 39-25 goals in the final at the same venue on the same day. Bangladesh Police Handball Club finished runners-up in the handball competition.
Shagor of BGB top-scored with 13 goals, while Russel of Bangladesh Police Handball Club netted 11 goals.
After the final matches, Executive Director of Walton Group FM Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn distributed the prizes among the winners as the chief guest. Vice-President of Bangladesh Handball Federation (BHF) Md Nurul Islam presided over the prize-giving ceremony. General Secretary of BHF Asaduzzaman Kohinoor, Chairman of the Tournament Committee and Additional Deputy Police Commissioner Kazi Romana Nasrin and Secretary of the Tournament Committee Md Mokbul Hossain were present at the time, among others.
A total of four teams took part in the women’s division, while a number of five teams participated in the men’s division.
