The Independence and National Day-2016 was celebrated in Sylhet city and its adjacent areas yesterday amidst much enthusiasm and festive mood.
Sylhet City Corporation (SCC), divisional and district administrations, political, social and cultural organizations and educational institutions including SUST, Leading, Metropoliton, SIU, SAU, Northest University, Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College observed the through separate programmes.
The day’s programmes began with heralding of 31 gun salutes at Police Line and placing floral wreaths at the altar of the city’s Shaheed Minars at the zero hours.
Commissioner of Sylhet division jamaluddin Ahmed, Deputy Commissioner Joinal Abedin, DIGP of Sylhet Range Mizanur Rahman, Commissioner of SMP Md Kamrul Ahsan and SP of Sylhet Nura Alam Mina placed wreaths at Police Line Shaheed Minar. SCC authority led by its ChiefExcutive Anamul Habib placed floral wreaths at Shaheed Minar and many other political, social and cultural organizations followed them.
The day’s programmes were also included hoisting of national flag atop all government, semi-government, private and public buildings, educational and other institutions, amusement rally,friendly cricket and football tournaments, reception to the FFs and screening of documentary films at different cinema halls and other open places.
A combined march-past by the members of police, ansar-VDP, fire service, BNCC, scouts, girl guides, jail guards and students of different educational institutions and physical display attracted people at district stadium in the morning.
Commissioner of Sylhet division jamaluddin Ahmed hoisted national flag and took salam of the march-past and witnessed the physical display accompanied by other high officials concerned.
Competition on painting, patriotic songs and poetry recitation were arranged for the students of school and college at the district Shishu Academy aimed at highlighting the significance of the day before the new generation. Valiant Freedom Fighters in the city were accorded a reception at Shilpakala Academy auditorium. Improved diets were served among the inmates of hospitals, jails, safe homes, orphanages and SOS.
BSS from Gaibandha reports: The great Independence and National Day was celebrated here on Saturday in a befitting manner, with due respect and taking fresh vow to build a happy, prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh.
In the celebration of the day, district administration, various cultural organisations, political parties and educational institutions chalked out the elaborate programmes.
The day’s programme began through placing wreaths by district administration, police department, district Muktijoddha Sangshad, district AL, district BNP, Jatiya party and other political parties, district BMA, educational institutions and socio-cultural organizations at the monument of the Poura Park of the town at midnight at 12.01 am.
The day was heralded with 31 gun salutes at Independence Square of the town here at the time of sun rising and national flag was hoisted atop all the government and private buildings just after sun rise.
Later, an impressive march past by police, ansar, VDP, BNCC, scouts, students of Govt. Shishu Paribars, school and colleges was held at the local stadium at 9.00 am.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) M. Abdus Samad and superintendent of police (SP) Ashraful Islam took salute as the chief guest and special guest respectively.
Later, the district administration in cooperation with Zilla Parishad (ZP) accorded reception to the freedom fighters and the members of martyred families at the stadium at 11.00 am with DC M. Abdus Samad in the chair.
BSS from Faridpur adds: The 46th Independence and National Day is being observed here in a befitting manner since Saturday morning.
To observe this great event of our national life an elaborate programme was chalked out earlier on March 2.
The day’s programme began with 31-gun salute at Police line in the morning followed by hoisting of national flag atop all public and private buildings.
People of all walks of life paid tributes by placing floral wreaths at the plaque of the martyred freedom fighters of 1971 located in the Goalchamat area of the town.
A rally consisting of people of all sheds paraded the town streets from Goalchamat to Faridpur stadium and also paid tributes to a mass grave praying for the salvation of the departed soul of the martyrs killed by Pakistani Army in 1971.
Besides, another rally and march past by Police, Ansar, VDP, BNCC, Scout and students of educational institutions was held at the stadium where Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sardar Sharafat Ali took salute after hoisting the national flag ceremonially.
