The city ward No.34 – Patharghata is one of the enlightened areas of the port city. This ward is located in the north adjoining side of Karnaphuli River and its adjoining areas are most important business hub namely Chaktai ,Asadgonj and Khatungonj.
The Chittagong City Corporation election is scheduled to be held on April 28 . Hectic election campaign is being conducted by the aspirant councilors in this ward. Mentionable that a stray incident between the supporters of two groups erupted on Monday morning but later it was resolved. There are four general councilor candidates in the election race in the ward. These councilor aspirants are incumbent councilor Md.Ismail alias Bali, Jalaluddin Iqbal, Ashfaque Ahmed and Anup Biswas.
Among them, 3 candidates claim themselves as ruling party backed nominees but divisions of opinions between the central and the local Awami League leaders witnessed.
Sources said Jalaluddin, Ashfaque and Anup Biswas belong to ruling party and central committee selected Jalaluddin as their party backed nominee but city AL President declared Ashfaque Ahmed as their city unit nominated nominee .
On the other hand, Anup Biswas himself claiming as ruling party supported aspirant . There are overwhelming support of the incumbent councilor Md. Ismail alias Bali irrespective of caste and creed.
Mentionable that in 2010 CCC election, Md. Ismail was elected councilor with highest vote and this is the second time for his candidature for councilor. Md. Ismail is a renowned business personality of the area. He is the 5th son of business personality Late Alhaj Abdur Razzak Sowdagar of Nazu Meah lane of Pathergatha ward under Kotwali thana .
Md. Ismail is a man dynamism in every respect. During his current tenure , established a Boys High school and a Kindergarten school in the area at his own initiatives.
He mentioned that Patherghata Boys’ High School has been sanctioned Tk 10 cr for development of the school at his initiative.
During his period Ismail established a new mosque and developed a number of old mosques and Mandirs in the area.
Besides, Councilor Ismail mitigated the traffic jam situation from Kotwali to Chaktai throughfare .
Among his achievement, the most remarkable project is re-excavation of Mariam Khal and evicted illegal occupants from Kalabagicha Khal .
Road expansion was done in Ashraf Ali Road, Brickfield Road , CVhamrargudam Bazaar Road and Omar Ali Market Road .
While asked about terrorism , he told the New Nation that he came into success in evicting the drug business and extortions in the area with maximum extents and hoped to evict these antisocial activities totally if he is elected again. He also told that during his tenure, a total of Tk.44 c r was sanctioned for his ward to develop , repair and expansions of the existing roads, culverts and bridges in his ward.
He also hoped that a technical training institute will be established in his ward to impart training to the unemployed youths and females to make them self-reliant, if elected next.
He also desires to complete his incomplete project works in next term if elected. He also expressed hope of becoming success in next CCC polls.
Mentionable that AL backed nominee Jalaluddin was elected councilor for the last 3 consecutive terms but defeated in 2010 polls.
