Increasing women’s participation in economic activities stressed

Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury said women’s participation in the mainstream of the economic activities is increasing because of their sincerity, innovative power and efficiency.
“Increasing participation of women in RMG, small and medium industries is playing an important role in poverty elimination, employment generation and industrialization in the country,” said Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Thursday while speaking at the opening session of a 3-day Banker-SME Women Entrepreneurs rally and fair-2018 in the city.
Bangladesh Bank’s SME and Special Programmes Department organized the programme at Bangladesh Shishu Academy.
BB Governor Fazle Kabir attended it as special guest while chairman of Association of Bankers’ Bangladesh Syed Mahbubur Rahman, Sheikh Md Selim of BB and BB’s Executive Director Md Abdur Rahim, among others, spoke on the occasion.
Speaker said though the women are playing an important role for flourishing the economy, their participation in financial institutions is still low.
If problems like lack of capital, non-cooperation from social and family levels and weakness in marketing of products are removed, the woman entrepreneurs will be able to contribute more to the country economic development, he added.
At the programme different banks gave Tk 14 crore loan to 26 woman entrepreneurs.
