Increasing number of students in technical edn underscored

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said the government has taken initiative to increase the number of students in technical and vocational education up to 20 percent by 2021 aiming to create skilled manpower.
“We have been able to increase the number of students up to 8 percent since the government took over power in 2009 . . . the number is expected to go up to 20 percent by year 2021,” he said this on Saturday while addressing a workshop on “Tasks for Ensuring Quality Technical and Vocational Education.”
The workshop was held at the conference room of the Directorate of Technical Education with its Director General Md. Shajahan Miah in the chair.
The minister said the government has taken some epoch making steps to increase the quality of technical and vocational education to make it world-class.
“International experts have been hired to provide world-class training and improve the quality of education,” he said, adding that the overall quality of education and management has been increased substantially than before and this trend must be continued for turning students into worthy citizen of the country.
Nahid said the government will establish seven women technical colleges, including four for girl students.
The minister called upon the principals and the authorities of the Directorate of Technical Education to continuously maintain contact with the factories, investors and the employment authorities for developing relationship with the students and providing them with jobs.
Education Secretary Nazrul Islam Khan (N I Khan) asked the 115 principals of different technical education colleges and institutes to develop website and online academic calendar of their respective colleges and institutes within a month. “After that you have to take initiative to convert all technical education books into multimedia books,” he added.
He said the principals can think about introducing student council in each technical education college and institute to practice democratic tolerance and norms in student life. There should be a cabinet of ministers who would be elected democratically in student council election, he said.
