Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury on Thursday sought increased British facilities for Bangladeshi students in UK as she opened a British Council sponsored education fair in the capital.
“She (speaker) called for creation of more opportunities for Bangladeshi students in UK alongside providing them education scholarships,” a parliamentary secretariat statement quoted her as saying at the launching ceremony of the function at a hotel.
The speaker said in view of globalization, the incumbent government provides all out supports for their studies abroad and said such education fairs would create opportunities for their academic pursuits.
Chowdhury, who is also the Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (C PA) Executive Committee, expected that higher education in Britain would enable Bangladeshi students to offer quality services for the national development and help enhance Dhaka-London ties.
Her comments came as the British Council staged the 18th United Kingdom Higher Education Exhibition Fair.
British High Commissioner in Bangladesh Alison Blake and Director of British Council in Bangladesh Barbara Wickham also were present during this time.
