The High Court (HC) on Thursday directed the Election Commission to include the names of Chairman and 10 Members of Mohammadpur Union Parishad in the voter-list meant for the Magura Zilla Parishad elections to be held on December 28 within two working days.
The court also issued a rule upon the EC and government to explain in four weeks as to why exclusion of their names from the existing voter-list should not be declared illegal.
The HC bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman passed the order and issued the rule after hearing a writ petition filed by the Chairman and Members of the Mohammadpur Union.
Barrister A M Mahbub Uddin Khokan represented in the court on behalf of the Chairman and the UP members. Advocate Siddique Ullah Mia was with him.
The lawyers said that they submitted the petition to the HC on December 21 saying that the Chairman and Members were entitled to be included in the voter-list under the Zilla Parishad Ain 2000. But the election commissin did not include their names. So they filed the writ petition.
