A total of 433 newly constructed houses are now ready for handing over to homeless families as a gift from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the Mujib Year in Bagerhat district. ANM Faizul Haq, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Bagerhat disclosed the matter in a press briefing in his conference room on Thursday noon. He said that construction work of 388 out of the total 433 houses are already completed for ceremonially handing over the ownership by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on January 23 formally. The rest 97 houses are expected to be completed very soon. The homeless and the landless families will be given disaster resilient houses to mark the Mujib Barso, the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in all the nine Upazilas of the district. The government with the initiative of the Premier Sheikh Hasina will provide them houses to alleviate their poverty by way of giving shelters and human resource development activities.
The DC added that all those houses were constructed in the district through the Project Implementation Committee. The committee consisted of UNO (Upazila Nirbahi Officer) as President, PIO (Project Implementation Officer) as Member-Secretary, while AC Land (Assistant Commissioner of Lands), Upazila Engineer and Chairman of the concerned Union Parishad were members of the committee.
It was also disclosed in the press briefing that each of the semi-pucca houses with 2 bed rooms, one kitchen, one toilet and one utility space were built at a cost of Tk.1.75 lakh while top roofed with coloured CI sheets. Upazila wise break up of the houses: Bagerhat Sadar-54, Kachua-36, Rampal-10, Mongla-50, Mollahat-35, Chitalmari-17, Fakirhat-30, Morrelganj-06 and Sharankhola-100.
DC also told on Saturday that on January 23 at 10.30 am that Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of Bangladesh, will ceremonially inaugurate all those houses of the country at a time through VDO conference from the office of the Premier. All the Upazila office premises of the district will be brought under VDO conference. The DC requested all the stakeholders, people’s representatives, elites and the journalists to observe the function.
