Opener Imrul Kayes also did not disappoint national selector’s faith as he made a brilliant come back in the side by slamming with a memorable maiden Test century against Sri Lanka in the second and final Test being held at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium here on Thursday.
The 27-year left handed opener Imrul Kayes, who returned to the Test side as a potential back-up opener having displayed some good form in recent domestic matches grabbed his opportunity as Marshal Ayub had to opt out due to injury.
He went to score a brilliant innings of 115-run off 218 ball with the help of 17 boundaries and one over boundary before he too was clean bowled by Ajantha Mendis trying to play an adventurous stroke.
Imrul previously had scored only a Test fifty against England way back in 2010 at Lord’s scoring 75. He had his share of luck as butter finger Lankan twice floored him as he made sure the visitor had to pay rich dividend for those lapses.
However Imrul who hails from the smallest district of Bangladesh Meherpur also threw away his wicket unnecessarily when he danced down the track only to be clean and found he had out stretched his hamstring was sadly carried away in a stretcher outside the ground.
One thought all the day’s good went down the drain as both the centurion were in charitable mood gifted away their prize scalps.
