Five left leaning student organisations on Tuesday branded spokesman of Gonojagoran Mancha Dr. Imran. H. Sarker as undemocratic as he has taken many decisions ignoring the suggestions of other leaders of the Mancha.
They made the allegations against Imran at a press conference at Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University.
JSD (Inu) backed Bangladesh Chhatra League President Shamsul Islam Sumon presided over the conference while Bangladesh Chhatra Moitree President Bappaditya Basu read out the written statement.
“We chose Imran to run the mancha activities smoothly. He did well in the first three months. But now he has been trying to establish his supremacy ignoring others. Now he is running the mancha in an undemocratic way,” they said.
Bangladesh Chhatra Andolan President Manjur Rahman Mithu, Convener of Chhatra Oikya Forum Sohan Shobhan, Convener of Bangladesh Chhatra Samitee Zahidur Rahman Khan, JSD (Inu) backed Bangladesh Chhatra League General Secretary Shahjahan Ali Saju, Chhatra Moitree General Secretary Tanvir Rusmat and Bangladesh Chhatra Andolan General Secretary Nazrul Sikder, among others, were present at the press conference. The student leaders were critical of Imran for his move to float a political party using the image of the mancha. Before doing so, they said, he should quit the Mancha.
The leaders of five student organisations — Chhatra Moitree, Chhatra League (JSD), Chhatra Andolon, Chhatra Oikya Forum and Chhatra Samitee who expressed solidarity to the Shahbagh movement on February 5, 2013 were present at the press conference. The leaders said the capital punishment to the war criminals is their ultimate goal.
Shamsul Islam Sumon said, “We have been working since February 5, 2013, for the punishment to the war criminals. But we heard that Imran was trying to weaken the mancha. We will discuss the matter and will take action against Imran”.
Imran H Sarkar, spokesman of the Gonojagoran Mancha talking to the media on Sunday said that the mancha was formed to protest war crimes convict Abdul Quader Mollah’s life term imprisonment.
He said: “The movement of Gonojagoran Mancha is going ahead in three ways simultaneously. It is a political movement, it is a social movement and it is a cultural movement.”
“We cannot rule out whether the Gonojagoran Mancha will form a political party or not. If people want it, the Mancha will certainly respect,” Imran said.
