UNB, Dhaka :
Strongly condemning the killing of its Jessore leader Ferdous Hossain, BNP on Thursday alleged that the killers and criminals are getting more desperate to commit brutal activities for lack of action by the government and the prevailing culture of impunity.
In a statement, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said, “The country’s people are now taking a deep breath over the brutal activities under the current government that assumed office without votes.”
He also said, “The criminals are becoming increasingly desperate and untamed as the government is not taking tough action against their brutalities and barbarity, and not ensuring the fair trial of the offenders when inhuman and heinous activities like killings, enforced disappearances and abductions are taking place continuously in the country.”
Fakhrul observed that the terrorists are killing people like animals using muscle power. “The country’s air has now become heavier with the yelling of parents, wives, children and relatives who lost their near and dear ones. It seems the heinous activities taking place in our country have outshined the brutalities of the dark ages.”
Jessore district unit of BNP assistant organising secretary Ferdous Hossain, 52, was hacked
to death by some unidentified miscreants at Lohapatti in Jessore district town on Wednesday night.
Fakhrul said the killing of Ferdous will remain another example of cruel activity carried out during the current regime. “We don’t have suitable words to denounce such an incident.” He demanded the government immediately arrest Ferdous’ killers and mete out exemplary punishment to them.
The BNP leader also prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
