Improving services of community clinics for ensuring healthcares stressed

Making awareness about local government activities in grass root level health sector stressed in an exchange of views with the media personalities of Barisal on Sunday noon.
Participants discussing role of development organisation and the challenges faced by them suggested more training, transparencies, accountabilities of the service providers and active participation of the stake holders in this regard.
The programme was organised by Chandrdwip Development Society (CDS) at its conference room in the city to explain the status of three years long ‘ establish rights to health services through advocacy (ERSHA) ‘ project scheduled to be ended on December 31, 2015.
The project implemented by CDS at Rahamatpur, Madhavpasha, Chandpasha, Kedarpur unions under Babunganj upazila of Barisal, was funded by ‘Cord Aid the Netherland’ in assistances with ‘Village Education Resource Center (VERC)’.
Jahanara Begum Swapna, executive director CDS, presided over the programme addressed among others by Abdul Halim, executive director, Suvash Saha, Dalia Pervin, training director of VERC, Muhammad Ali Jibon, area coordinator of the project, and representatives from different media houses.
In the programme answering the quarries of media representatives, the project officials said that one of the major challenges in implementing the project was marked as unawareness about the manuals, functions and duties of Union Parishad, the lowest base of local government, by the both officials and stake holders.
BSS from Rajshahi adds: High officials at a community level discussion unequivocally called for improving the essential services of community clinics for ensuring healthcare services to the grassroots people for their betterment.
To this end, they viewed the district and upazila level officials and others concerned should put in their level best efforts so that the rural people can derive total benefits of the community clinics. There is no alternative to make the services peoples-friendly.
They were addressing the discussion styled “Reduction of Maternal and Infant Death through Maternal and Child Health Services in Communities” held at Sadhanpur Community Clinic premises under Puthiya Upazila of the district on Sunday afternoon.
Secretary to Health and Family Welfare Ministry Syed Manjurul Islam and Additional Secretary to Cabinet Division Moin Uddin addressed the discussion as chief and special guests respectively with Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury, Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi, in the chair.
Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi division Munir Hossain, Divisional Director of Health Dr Hedayetul Islam, Director of Prime Minister’s Office Nasrin Afroz, Civil Surgeon Dr Abdus Sobhan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Nuruzzaman and Shilmaria UP Chairman Sazzad Hossain Mukul also spoke.
