Importer fined Tk 17 cr for tax evasion

The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) on Thursday filed a case against an importer for evading tax of about TK 17 crore by misusing bond facilities
A team of CIID inspected the factory of the importer ‘Liberty Accessories’ and found shortage of 1500 metric tons of plastic stone which was imported under duty-free facilities as per conditions of the bond license.
 The CIID team apprehended that the said amount of plastic stone was sold in retail market which is violation of bond license condition. Deputy Director of CIID S M Shamimur Rahman said the trade organisation has been selling the plastic stone in local market violating bond license condition since long.
 Plastic stone was imported for exporting it after using in garments accessories. Earlier, Liberty Accessories was also sued for evading tax of about TK 12 crore by misusing bond facilities. The case is now still under trial.
Mobile court fined Tannery : A mobile court of Directorate of Environment (DoE) in a drive fined a tannery of Taka 10 lakh for polluting environment on Thursday .
 A team of DOE conducted the drive at Reef Leather Limited, at Nexus Industrial none at city’s Biyazid Industrial area found the tannery polluted environment while manufacturing animal skin without setting Effluent Treatment Plant.
Later, director of DoE Azadur Rahman Mollik fined the tannery Taka 10 lakh 43 thousand and 750 after hearing in presence of the factory owner.
