Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Tuesday said the government would bring every important point of the country’s border under a strong surveillance to curb all sorts of crimes including smuggling.
“We have sent necessary directive to the deputy commissioners, BGB (Border Guard Bangladesh) and the police department to install most modern surveillance devices quickly at every important point of the border,” he told BSS here on Tuesday.
He said all divisional commissioners have already received the government’s directive in this regard, adding, “We would also install scanning machines at all 16 landports to curb smuggling and infiltration of all sorts of illegal items into the country.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked the agencies under the home ministry to give more attention to checking smuggling of illegal arms and drugs and consolidating a strong cooperation among the countries of this region on this issue. The Home Minister, however, said the law enforcement agencies have been asked to speed up their activities in preventing smuggling, adding, “All concerned must work in a coordinated way to check smuggling . . . drives should be strengthened further and these should continue on a regular basis.”
