Importance on eradicating mosquito menace stressed

In the wake of the recent rise of the mosquito menace in the city, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam said the government is attaching due importance to eliminate mosquito problem.
“The government is providing all sorts of assistance to the two city corporations to eradicate the mosquito problem,” he told the journalists on Wednesday after inaugurating the special mosquito killing drive and awareness campaign at Rupnagar in the city’s Mirpur area.
To handle the mosquito menace, the minister said the country has adequate stock of pesticides and accessories and necessary manpower, adding that all sorts of cooperation are being provided to the city corporations.
All concerned councilors have been entrusted with the task of overseeing the mosquito-eradicating activities in their respective wards, the LGRD minister added.
Expressing his government’s firm stance on curbing pollution, he said “We will not tolerate any kind of negligence or reluctance by concerned officials in regard to drives against pollution and canal (khal) encroachment.”
Newly elected Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Atiqul Islam, Panel Mayor Jamal Mostafa, Additional Secretary of the Local Government Division Amitabh Sarker, DNCC Chief Executive Officer Abdul Hai, Secretary Rabindra Sree Barua and DNCC’s Chief Waste Management Officer M Manjur Hossain, among others, attended the programme.
