Statisticians at a daylong seminar held at Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) here today said accurate statistics have enormous importance in the national life.
They said the demand for accurate statistics has been increasing everyday both at national and international level and they put maximum emphasis on the necessity of presenting the socioeconomic activities, development successes through correct statistics.
The Department of Statistics of the university organised the daylong seminar on ‘Statistics: A journey Through Time’ at the gallery room of the academic building on the campus.
Head of the Department of Statistics of the university Mohammad Shahzaman presided over the seminar participated by the teachers and students of the same department.
Professor of Statistics of the Department of Mathematical Sciences of the Bail; State University in the United States of America Dr AHM Rahmatullah Imon took part in the seminar as the key note speaker.
Dean of the Faculty of Business Studies of BRUR Dr Matiur Rahman, Associate Professor of the Department of Statistics of Rajshahi University Dr Zahanur Rahman and Assistant Professor of the Department of Statistics of BRUR Siraj-Ud-Dowla were discussants.
The speakers said accurate statistics on everything is very much important for proper planning of all sorts of development works in attaining sustainable development of any country.
They put emphasis on enhancing skill and expertise of the participants, who are involved in preparing and presenting various statistics, utilising the knowledge they acquired from the seminar to apply those professionally and correctly in future.
