Speakers on Tuesday stressed the importance of cyber-security, in order for the country to maintain its gains in the field of Information Technology (IT).
Cyber-attacks have increased across the world and government, corporations and individuals have all come under attack. If necessary attention is not given to the sector at the moment and skilled manpower not built up in this regard, the country will fall behind in the sector, they said. The speakers said this while addressing a seminar titled ‘Cyber Security and Digital Signature’ organized by Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) on its campus.
Addressing the seminar, State minister for Science and Technology, Yeafesh Osman said Bangladesh has reached a level where it can look after its own security.
“Technology is such a thing where every problem has a solution too,” he added.
Pointing at the students of IT, the junior minister said “You have to learn the language of the people apart from acquiring knowledge of technology.”
Professor Mohammad Zahidur Rahman of Computer Science and Engineering Department of Jahangirnagar University and Dr Zulfiquar Ahmed, associate professor of Department of Law and Justice of Rajshahi University presented keynote papers. In the papers they said methods to protect data by using encryption, antivirus software, firewalls, access passwords, etc, have been around long before the modern day data revolution, but unfortunately none of these could effectively provide security solutions to accommodate the modern day modes of digital communication.
