UNB, Dhaka :
Women in Bangladesh are still not getting equal opportunity to jobs and decision-making process though government has been announcing gender budget each year and gender sensitive policies are in force.
Speakers in a National Seminar arranged by Bangladesh Nari Progati Sangha (BNPS) on ‘Policies, Laws and Budget: Addressing the Question of Inequality against Women’ came up with this observation on Sunday.
Gender experts, NGO workers, academics and government officials attended the seminar held at CIRDAP Auditorium.
They said though Bangladesh achieved first rank within South Asian countries and 47th place in the world according to the Global Gender Gap Report 2017 published by the World Economic Forum (WEF), but the society is far from being a gender sensitive one.
Speakers said, lack of understanding on the gender equity, inappropriate methodology of gender budget expenditure, absence of monitoring, follow up and review of gender development reinforce gender inequality rather than changing the society.
