Implementation of necessary policies, infrastructural development needed for flower industry : DCCI

Flower industry is a very potential industry in our country and to develop this particular one, necessary policies and infrastructural development needs to be established; thinks DCCI. To evaluate the possibilities and potentials of this sector, The Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (DCCI) is going to organize a 3 day long ‘International Flower Exhibition & Conference 2018’ at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) today (Thursday) with the support of USAID and in association with Bangladesh Flower Society (BFS).
In this occasion, a press conference took place at DCCI auditorium on Tuesday. The president of DCCI, Abul Kasem Khan gave a brief description about the entire event and invited guest from different arena. He said that according to the information of International Trade Center (ITC), the market of flower throughout the world is rising by 10 percent every year and during 2018, the value of flower export market is equivalent to $45 billion. In 2017-18 FY, the volume of Bangladesh’s flower export was $86 thousand. Presently, Bangladesh is having a potential market of flower which has value of BDT 800-1200 crore.
Abul Kasem Khan suggested that giving loan in less interest rate to the farmers and entrepreneurs related with this industry, using modern technologies, delivering better and newer seeds, building warehouse and cold storage; and infrastructural development is needed for the betterment of this sector. For the development of this sector, building warehouse is mandatory in current scenario and it should be identified as a ‘thrust sector’ by the government and policy makers, suggested Khan.
USAID consultant and former secretary of Agriculture Ministry, Anwar Faruque said that necessary steps need to be taken by the government by building larger infrastructure for this particular sector that private sector could be eager to invest in this arena. He informed that the present market value of flower is almost BDT1000 crore; whereas 50 types of flower are regularly produced in 10000 hector area of 23 districts.
Abul Kasem Khan briefed that almost 70 exhibitors will show their products in the exhibition; India, Thailand and Nepal will represent 12 stalls among these. Flower Parade, Installation art by flower, childrens art competition, puppet show, musical show, group dance and 3d visual show will add color in this event. From 6th to 8th December, the event is open for all guests and the registration full free. The Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), Kazi M. Aminul Islam will be present in the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest.
