IONS Multilateral Maritime Search and Rescue Exercise (IMMSAREX) 2017; a sea based exercise, will be held in November under the arrangement of Bangladesh Navy with the participation of Indian Ocean Littorals.
For the smooth conduct of upcoming sea exercise, an Initial Planning Conference (IPC) was held in Dhaka participated by representatives from 14 IONS nations including Bangladesh, Australia, France, China, India, Oman, UAE and Russia, said an ISPR press release issued on Tuesday.
Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations) Rear Admiral M Makbul Hossain inaugurated the event yesterday at Shagorika Hall, Naval Headquarter complex.
A workshop on “Maritime Search and Rescue” was also held to set the tone of upcoming exercise.
Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS) is a multinational maritime security initiative undertaken in 2008.
It is aimed to promote measures and mechanisms of constructive engagement addressing the issues of regional security and cooperation in the maritime domain.
Presently Chief of Naval Staff of Bangladesh Navy Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed is the Chairman of IONS.
