Nabami, Dasami end: Immersion of Goddess Durga at 4 points in port city

Chittagong Bureau :The farewell ceremony to Goddes Durga completed through immersion of idols in the port city yesterday afternoon. About 325 idols of Goddess Durga immersed in these spots peacefully without any untoward incidents. In the meantime , Mohanagar Puja committee suspended immersion celebration programs from 12 noon to 2 pm yesterday due to Juma prayer day of Muslims .Under the total supervision of City Corporation, the immersion programs ended. City Mayor graced the main immersion spot at Patenga beach as chief guest. The Hindu community on Thursday observed Maha Nabami and Dashami through performing the day’s final worship to Goddess Durga in the port city as elsewhere in the district. The Goddess Durga is worshipped in various forms during the five-day Sharodiya Durgotsab and one of those is worshiping Kumari as an epitome of virginity. Meanwhile Mohanagar Puja Utjapon Committee selected 4 spots in the city for immersioning the Goddess Durga to avoid rush and any untoward incidents. These spot are- Patenga seabeach, Kalugurght site river Karnaphuli, Parki beach and Kedarnath Tewari pukur of Goalpara in city. Devotees of all ages offered flowers at the feet of the Goddess Durga and as part of their rites seeking blessings from the Goddess.The organisers also arranged cultural programmes on the occasion and later, Mohaprasad (sweets) along with anjali (flowers) was distributed among the devotees during whole night. .All puja mandaps were given enchanting looks with colourful designs and lights while additional members of law enforcement agency have been deployed in all the temples in the city to maintain law and order situation during the festival.Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), district police and Puja committee source said, there was no report of any untoward incidents centering the Durga puja celebrations.CMP sources said a five to seven-member team of law enforcers has been deployed at every Puja Mandap and adequate numbers of law enforcer including, Armed Police Battalion members have already been deployed in all areas where members of Hindhu community reside to maintain law and order.Besides, plainclothes policemen, members of the different intelligence agencies including Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and RAB personnel will also keep vigil at the area.Besides, district and Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) have already opened separate control rooms at their respective headquarters to monitor the situation of 309 puja mandaps in the port city and 1954 puja mandaps in the district.
