Reiterating that she is always ready to make any kind of sacrifices for the sake of this nation, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Friday said it is now time to make a vow to take Bangladesh to the higher peak of development as the country has to go a long way.
“Bangladesh is moving ahead and will continue to move ahead. It’s not a big deal whatever we’ve achieved so far. We’ll have to go far ahead and long way and take Bangladesh to the higher peak of further development. That should be our pledge,” she said.
The Prime Minister was addressing a rousing civic reception hosted to her for her achievements and successes in various fields, including implementation of the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) with India.
Reasserting that she is not afraid of death, Sheikh Hasina said, “I’ll continue to work for the emancipation of this nation … Bangladesh will continue to move ahead facing all kinds of barriers as well as keeping its head high in the global arena.”
Jatiya Nagorik Committee accorded the reception to the Prime Minister at the historic Suhrawardy Udyan. Convener of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee celebrated author Syed Shamsul Huq chaired the programme and made the introductory and closing remarks. The civic reception
began with the singing of the national anthem. Syed Shamsul Huq presented a boat to the Prime Minister while Emeritus Prof Anisuzzaman read out the citation of Sheikh Hasina and also handed it over to her.
Prof Muntasir Mamun, country’s renowned economist Prof Dr Qazi Kholiquzzaman Ahmad, educationist Dr Anupam Sen, mother of a martyr of 1971 Shyamoli Nasrin Chowdhury, Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman and cultural personality freedom fighter Nasiruddin Yusuf Bachchu spoke on the occasion.
