Illegally appointed new employees of Rajshahi University (RU) on Saturday morning locked up the administration building and the vice-chancellor’s residence of the university to stop the finance committee meeting and the syndicate meeting of the university.
A meeting of the finance committee was scheduled to be held at the vice-chancellor’s residence on Saturday at 10.30 am and a syndicate meeting was scheduled on the next 22 June.
Newly appointed Atikur Rahman Sumon who was also a vice-president of RU Chhatra League said, we heard that in those meetings a proposal would be offered to cancel our appointments, that’s why we locked up the building to stop the meetings.
RU acting vice-chancellor professor Ananda Kumar Saha said, I assumed few days ago that this would happen that’s why I informed the police station through the university proctor. The local politicians also know the matter.
The outgoing vice-chancellor of Rajshahi University professor M Abdus Sobhan illegally appointed 141 persons (Adhoc) in different positions on the last day of his power on 06 May. Between them, 9 are as teacher, 23 as officer, 85 as 3rd-grade employee and 24 as 4th-grade employee.
The acting vice-chancellor of the university professor Ananda Kumar Saha postponed the joining of those appointed persons according to the direction of the Education Ministry.
