A truck and pick-up van stand has been illegally established on the Lal Mohon Shaha Street, Dholaikhal, on a piece of land belonging to Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
As a result, it has created constant traffic jam, said a DSCC official. The stand has occupied five acres of land.
An official of the DSCC admitted their inability of removing the stand because the truck and pick-up van owners and workers obstruct the initiative.
During a recent visit, it was found that at least 100-150 trucks and pick-up vans were parked on the stand and on the adjacent road keeping narrow space for the vehicles and passengers, which create traffic jam between Jatrabari and Sadarghat spot intensely.
Therefore, one needs more than two hours to pass through the short distant area. On the contrary, the pedestrians are compelled to walk by the road with risk as the trucks and pick-ups are parked grabbing footpath of the area as well.
Moreover, there are offices of the Awami League (Ward No. 41 of DSCC), Dhaka trucks, mini-trucks, and covered-van owners association, and the Dhaka district trucks, and mini-trucks, covered-van workers union.
