Ishwardi (Pabna) Correspondent :

The illegal sand and soil lifting are unabated from the crop lands of the Padma char area in Laxmikunda of Ishwardi. Most of this soil is going to the local illegal brickfields. Hundreds of bighas of crop land are being destroyed and the environment is being polluted.
Wheat, khesari, masna and other vegetables are cultivated in these crop lands of char areas. As a result of soil erosion, the amount of cultivable land is gradually decreasing. There have been several raids in the area in the last year. Due to the remoteness of the area and its remoteness from the city, before the expedition team could reach the site, the soil and sand fell on the ground. Day laborers and salaried employees were caught during the operation.
Hundreds of vehicles are cutting the soil from that one union every day through the syndicate of land traders of Laxmikunda union. Although the local influential clique is involved in this misdeed, the main culprits of the clique are always out of reach.
According to the locals, the cycle is tempting the farmers by cutting the soil of these crop lands with the help of vacuum machines. It can be seen on the spot that in Nabinagar, Dadapur, Bilkedar, Kamalpur areas of Laxikunda union of the upazila, the soil of the crop land is being cut by vacuum machine and it is being taken away by truck and tractor. 6 strong roads have been constructed with bricks, mortar and sand for transportation of looted soil and sand bricks in the char areas and elsewhere. 10 wheeler trucks, drum trucks and tractors are plying on this road day and night.
In this regard, the soil trader of Bilkedar village said on condition of anonymity that many other traders like me are cutting the soil of the crop land.
In this regard, Ishwardi Upazila Nirbahi Officer PM Imrul Kayes said that several raids have been carried out in the area in the last one year. The distance from the city to the area is much greater. Before we could reach, the earthenware fell on the shore. No one is available except vacuum machines and day laborers. This time we have taken steps to stop the source of soil supply. On Sunday, we raided the brick field in Lakshikunda and fined it. Instructions have also been given not to cut and destroy the topsoil of crop lands. He said the operation would continue.
He tried to contact the Assistant Director of Pabna District Environment Department on his mobile phone but could not find him.
