Influential persons are allegedly behind the setting up of illegal cattle markets in the city to sell sacrificial animals prior to Eid ul-Azha, it was alleged.
“I have got lease of Shampur Balurmath cattle market as a cost of Tk 168,000 including VAT. But some influential persons have started an illegal cattle market very close to it in Jurain area. They asked the cattle traders to take cattle in their illegal market. We must be affected in business if this illegal market finally exists,” said Mashuk Rahman, the lease holder of Shampur Balurmath cattle market.
He said, “The so called ‘Jurain Balurmath’ has no space. So they are trying to set up market on the roads in front of the nearby market. It will also cause sufferings to the people to use those roads.”
Local MP Syed Abu Hossain Babla said, there is no scope to establish a cattle market in Jurain road area.
“The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has not given approval to set a temporary cattle market there. I have talked to DSCC Mayor on this issue. He assured me that the market would not be allowed to set-up finally.”
But the persons behind the market have completed all preparations including making stage and colourful gates with banners reading the name of the cattle market. They have set-up bamboos on road side to tie cows.
The same thing has been found in Gopibagh Brothers Union Balurmath.
The DSCC did not get sufficient bidders to give lease of the play ground.
The DSCC officials said they are sending the names of these illegal cattle markets to the LGRD Ministry for its decision.
But local influential persons have taken preparation to set a temporary cattle market there.
Nearly 50 workers have found taking preparations for the market. Some traders also have taken their animals in nearby lanes.
One person behind setting up of the market said they are hopeful to get nod for the market in the final stage.
“We are just advancing our preparation only,” he said.
Apart from this, the local influential persons also completed preparations with making gates and pasted posters for Golapbagh play ground cattle market, though the DSCC has not called tenders for the playground.
The posters read Abul Kalam Azad as the lease holder of the temporary market.
The playground situated in ward-49. The ward councilor Badal Sardar said, “It is sure that the DSCC has not approved it as a temporary market. But we are trying to get permission. If the authority does not permit us then we must stop the market.”
The DSCC also did not get sufficient bidders for Armanitola and Sadek Hossain play ground markets. They are also sending those names to the ministry.
But the local influential persons are allegedly taking every preparation to set up markets there.
