Some 100 illegal brick kilns are running defying ban at Konda Union in South Keraniganj thana of Keraniganj Upazila.
They are using wood and tires for burning. These brick fields have been developed by some illegal traders through the syndicate by grabbing government land and canal without environmental slip. Apart from the rules after manage local administration these bricks kiln burn woods, old tires and plastic products. As the increase in air pollution levels and decreasing environment friendly trees day by day. As a result residents of this area are at risk of health. As well as the decrease in the crop land, the yield has decreased the foliage plants.
It is found in Mollar Hat area of Konda union, a brick kiln named Molla bricks is being burnt wood. Wood and tires are stacked to burn. Such images are almost every brick field in this area. Besides, some businessmen are sitting in old tires and woodworks for brick klin selling in Jajira areas.
Abul Mia, a resident of Sadurbazar area said, “Our union has become a brick kiln city. Wherever we look, it is only seen that the brick kiln chimney. The management of some of the officials of the administration, the owners of the devastation are managing these landslides.
Fazle Rabbi, another resident of Bibir Bazar area, said people of our area were agricultural dependents. As the brick fields increase, the amount of agricultural land is decreasing day by day. Besides, fruit trees in front of the house do not yield any earlier.
When talking to Md Mizanur Rahman, owner of Ekta Enterprise, old tire vendor of Jazira Boat Ghat area, he said, we sell old tires, trees and wood. buyers are taken it to burn in brick kiln.
When talking to a reliever owner of a brick field, he said, “We have our association.” Every season, we donate a lot of money in the association. The association manages administration and the people of environment.
Talking to Keraniganj Brick kiln Owners Association President Abul Hossain, he said that the vice-president of the association and the local UP chairman will be able to say goodbye.
Local Konda UP chairman and Keraniganj Brick Kiln Owner Association Vice President Saidur Rahman Chowdhury Faruq said , owners of the brick field are burning timber and tires due to lack of import of coal.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) South Keraniganj Circle Pramath Ranjan Ghatak said, “We have conducted our campaign against illegal brick klin.” We also sought the complete list of illegal brick kiln from the concerned authorities, the campaign will be re-organised once the list is done.
