Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on Sunday said that he would constantly ask Myanmar government to take back its nationals from Bangladesh amid the repeated denial of Rohingya citizenship by Myanmar.
The Home Minister is scheduled to go to that country on October 23 to accelerate the talks on Rohingya repatriation. “Apart from repatriation,
I’ll also ask the Myanmar government to ensure safe and secure environment so that Rohingyas could stay there without any fear,” he told the newsmen after attaending a programme in Gazipur.
When asked about the statement of Myanmar’s Commander in Chief Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the Home Minister said, “If anybody denies the history, it is nothing but disagreeing of truth. History says, Rohingyas are nationals of Myanmar.”
Officials said Bangladesh wants to resolve all the problems through discussion as there are some unresolved issues but the main agenda would be to send back all Rohingyas to Myanmar.
Kamal will lead a nine-member delegation including two secretaries, Inspector General of Police, additional secretary, Director General of Border Guard, Director General of Bangladesh Coast Guard and Director General of the Department of Narcotics Control.
Earlier, the Home Minister said over five lakh Rohingyas came to Bangladesh long ago and now new five lakh Rohingyas arrived. “They are still staying here despite our sincere diplomatic efforts to send them back. The government let out the Bhasanchar Island for the Rohingyas to save Teknaf and Ukhia from any social problem,” he said.
