Q. Do you think that private universities maintain standard of education and what about your own university?
Ans. The word standard is a relative term. There is no end of standard and it is a continuous process. May be that not many universities are capable to provide quality education but they are trying, I believe.
I am proud to inform you that our University has earned reputation in the country by being one of the few best universities among the then 51 private universities of Bangladesh as graded by the high powered team constituted by the Prime Minister in 2004. Moreover, IIUC has obtained the membership of Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World (FUIW) in March 2008 and membership in the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) in 2010 besides having academic and training exchange programs with many renowned foreign Universities.
Q. Are you facing any problem to run your university smoothly?
Ans. No, I do not face any problem to run the University.
Q. Are you satisfied with the support of Government as well as UGC?
Ans. The remark ‘support’ is not that much applicable for private universities. Rather, both the UGC and the Government try to play different roles about private universities so that the universities do not move away from its main objective that is to disseminate and create knowledge.
Q. According to you, what steps should be taken by the Government to make private universities more accountable and dynamic?
Ans. Undoubtedly private universities are playing an important role for the advancement of the higher education in Bangladesh. It minimizes the students’ trend of going abroad for higher education. In this way Private Universities are helping to save huge amount of foreign exchange.
In view of this, the govt. should render its supporting hand for the improvement of the quality of education. All private universities are yet to be capable to maintain expected quality. Currently UGC is trying to do these but the control is not effective yet due to shortage of manpower and other reasons.
Q. Why your institution/university is different from others?
Ans. IIUC is different from other universities for the following reasons:
n The founding organization of this University is ‘Islamic University Chittagong Trust’ (IUCT) and it is a charitable organization. So profit generation is not the aim of IIUC.
n IIUC is the only University in Bangladesh which is providing separate education for male and female.
n It has the largest permanent campus with 65 acres of land.
n IIUC is the only university which gives emphasis on moral education.
Q. Who is the sponsor or what is the founding source of your university?
Ans. The founding organization of this University is ‘Islamic University Chittagong Trust’ (IUCT) IUCT. Some generous and education loving people from home and abroad primarily provided finance for the establishment of this institution. Now it runs with its own income coming from students’ tuition fees.
