IGP’s tour to Germany sets social media abuzz

Inspector General of Police (IGP) and two other officials are going to Germany on a nine-day visit to check the quality of 100,000 pieces of double bed sheet and pillows for the police department.
Social media is now abuzz with this news. Police, however, say such visits are nothing new. Earlier, the police officials made such trips to check the quality.
When contacted, senior officials of the police force did not want to speak on the matter.
Last Monday, the Home Ministry issued the order regarding the visit. According to the order, besides IGP Benazir Ahmed, two more people are going to Germany. They are the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs Feroz Uddin Khalifa and Superintendent of Police Mohammad Masud Alam.

 Mahbubul Alam Majumder, Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs. The order said the three officers would take part in a “factory acceptance test”. The duration of this tour will be any 9 days from 2nd to 26th February (excluding travel time). The order also said that the tour would start as soon as possible.
It was further stated that the entire cost of the trip would be borne by the organizing body. There will be no financial involvement of the Government of Bangladesh, the officials will be assumed to be on duty during the break, the officials will not be able to stay out of the country after the approved time and they will inform the Home Ministry within 15 days of their return. Lastly, the order has been issued subject to the permission of the appropriate authorities.
Copies of the order have been sent to Foreign Secretary, Inspector General of Police, Director General of Passport Department, Personal Secretary to Home Minister, Personal Secretary to Senior Secretary of Public Security Department, Deputy Secretary to Public Security Department (Administration-1), Officer-in-Charge of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
