Staff Reporter :Inspector General of Police (IGP) AKM Shahidul Huq on Wednesday ordered the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to start drive against extortionists, dope-party and snatchers ahead of Eid-ul-Azha. “Dope-party men in the guise of hawker or friend come to the street and other crowded places ahead of Eid festival. They mix drugs in foods juice, tea, coffee, date, fried rice, herbal, biscuit and other foods. After takingthose people become senseless and some of them even died. So, they must be arrested;” the IGP said. AKM Shahidul Huq gave the order while addressing a coordination meeting ahead of Eid-ul-Azha held at the police headquarters.He called upon the passengers to avoid foods of open space places and take from permanent restaurants and shops. The IGP directed the police to take initiative to make people cautious about the dope-party men through distributing leaflets and using digital equipment at bus stand, launch terminal and railway station. “All-out measures should be taken to free national highways, bus terminals, launch terminals, markets and shopping malls from the clutches of the organised extortionists,” he said. Plainclothes policemen keep a close watch on shopping malls, bus terminals, launch stations and railway stations to curb criminal activities like extortion, mugging and snatching of Agyan party men, the IGP added.He also asked the highway and district police to gearup their activities in curbing highway robberies and extortion of toll before and during Eid. Asaduzzaman Miah informed the meeting that the DMP is ready to ensure free movement of the people. Additional IGP (A&O) Mokhlesur Rahman, DIG Dhaka Range SM Mahfuzul Haque Nuruzzaman and police superintendents of Dhaka and near districts, among others, were present at the meeting.
