Inspector General of Police A K M Shahidul Hoque bpm, ppm will inaugurate the week-long Anti-Drug Debate Festival at CIRDAP auditorium today ( Sunday).
Debate for Democracy and the Department of Narcotics Control are jointly organizing this Debate Festival. Director General of Narcotics Control Khondoker Rakibur Rahman will deliver speech on impact of drug abuse in the society as Special Guest. Hassan Ahamed Chowdhury Kiron, Chairperson of Debate for Democracy will preside over the inaugural ceremony.
Renowned colleges including Viqarunnesa Noon College, Shahid Police Smrity College, St. Joseph Higher Secondary School, Dhaka Cant. Girls Public School and College, Dhaka Commerce College, Siddheswary Girls College, Mohammadpur Preparatory Girls’ High School & College, and South Point College will participate in the debate Festival.
Dwelling on the importance of arranging Anti-Drug Debate Festival, Hassan Ahamed Chowdhury Kiron, Chairman , Debate for Democracy underscored that to highlight the impact of abuse of drugs quite convincingly, is the compelling motive of this debate festival. Noticeably enough, most of the drug users are teenagers gradually influenced by their associates forming into a formidable cluster of drug abusers.
Hassan Ahamed Chowdhury opined that this catastrophic incident can however be dropped to the notice of the people as a whole by instituting this burning issue as a focal point of discussion in this debate festival.
Debate topics comprised of causes and trends of drug addiction, social awareness on narcotics control, role of media in controlling narcotics, role of family, society and civil society etc. Asaduzzaman Khan, Minister, Ministry of Home Affairs will distribute prizes among winners at grand final and closing ceremony on 24 January.
