Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Mohammad Javed Patwary asked police officials to ensure foolproof security during Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of Hindus.
The IGP gave the directives at a meeting on ‘law and order and security measures for Durga Puja’ at Police Headquarters here.
Patwary said stern action will be taken if any person or group spread propaganda on social media including facebook with a view to destroy communal harmony of the society.
He urged the leaders of Puja Udjapan Committee to deploy volunteers during making of idols, set up CC cameras and fire extinguishers and use metal detectors at puja mondaps.
The IGP expressed his optimism that the Durga Puja will be celebrated in a peaceful manner like the previous years with concerted efforts of all.
The leaders of Puja Udjapan Parishad expressed satisfaction over the security measures taken ahead of the Durga Puja. The meeting was informed that Durga Puja will be held around 31,000 puja mandaps across the country.
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Director General Dr Benazir Ahmed, Additional IGP Dr Md Mainur Rahman Chowdhury, Additional IGP of Railway Range Md Mohsin Hossain, Additional IGP of Industrial Police Abdus Salam, Special Branch Chief Mir Shahidul Islam, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Chief Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Additional IGP of Telecom and Information Management Unit Md Iqbal Baha, Highway Police Additional IGP Barrister Mahbubur Rahman, representatives of different intelligence agencies, Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad President Milan Kanti Dutta and General Secretary Nirmal Kumar Chattarjee and Dhaka Mahanagar Sarbajanin Puja Committee President Shoilendra Nath Majumder were present in the meeting, among others.
