IGP Cup National Youth Kabaddi opens today

The final round of the IGP Cup 14th National Youth (Under-21) Kabaddi Championship, under the auspices of Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation (BKF), will be inaugurated at the Kabaddi Stadium here today (Tuesday).
The Inspector General of Police and President of Bangladesh Kabaddi Federation AKM Shahidul Hoque will inaugurate the four-day meet in the afternoon.
Eight teams — six divisional champions alongside two top teams from Dhaka division split into two groups – will initially take part in league-basis matches of the competition that will officially begin on Wednesday.
Six matches will be held on the opening day in the morning and afternoon sessions.
Later, two top teams from each of the group will play in the semifinal on April 8. The final and the 3rd place deciding match will be held on April 9.
The IGP disclosed these at a press conference at the Police Headquarters on Monday.
DIG (Admin) Binoy Krishna Bala, Additional DIG M Nazrul Islam, BKF general secretary M Nazrul Islam also spoke on the occasion.
The participating teams are Group A – Comilla, Sylhet, Dhaka and Nilphamari
Group B – Mymensingh, Satkhira, Rajshahi and Barisal.
Addressing the pressmen, the IGP informed that for the first time in the history of the game, Kabaddi competitions were held in all the 64 districts of the country where 6240 players took part.
“Thirty-five talented players from the competition (national youth) will be picked for a long-term higher training to form a national B team and they will be nursed for the national team.”
The champions of the ensuing IGP Cup will be awarded with prize money of Tk 1 lakh, runners-up will receive Tk 50,000, 3rd place holders will get Tk 30,000 while the best player will receive cash award of Tk 10,000 in addition to a trophy.
