BSS, Dhaka :
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is stepping up its assistance to Bangladesh for helping the country improve further the livelihood of rural people.
The international organisation, which has been operating in Bangladesh for over three decades, will increase its project funding next year, official sources told BSS ahead of a high level policy dialogue between the government and IFAD, to be held in the capital city tomorrow (Thursday).
A visiting delegation of IFAD board of members will participate in the policy dialogue where Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith will lead the state team.
The prime focus of the dialogue will be finding ways to strengthen further the cooperation between IFAD and the government for achieving sustainable development in the fields of agriculture and food security, said an official of the Economic Relations Division (ERD), the organiser of the event.
According to ERD, IFAD has so far funded $717.2 million for 31 projects in Bangladesh, benefiting 10.7 million rural households directly.
The international organisation will provide necessary funding next year for funding two projects, aiming at improving competitiveness of small hold farmers and rural infrastructure.
