BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan on Sunday asked the government if it developed the power sector, then why crisis does prevail.
“The government repeatedly claimed that they had developed the power sector so much that capacity of producing electricity is double than the demand. If such, then why the crisis? Why they renewed the agreements of quick rental power plant repeatedly?” Nazrul Islam Khan asked the questions while addressing a protest rally in front of the National Press Club on Sunday organized by Dhaka district unit BNP over protesting the ongoing power crisis.
“There are very strange matter in our country now named ‘quick rental power plant’. The government are pouring thousands of crore taka in those ‘quick rentals’ without having any benefits for the people of the country,” the BNP leader said.
He questioned that the people want to know if the government is only giving money to those quick rentals or many are getting share of those money.
“If some influential persons do not get share then why the government is pouring lots of money to this plants?” Nazrul questioned.
The BNP leader said that this government is not elected by the people so, they have not any responsibility and accountability to the countrymen.
“They are not elected. They have grabbed the power through night time non-voting polls. So, they are not working for the people but for themselves and for their near ones’.
Dhaka District BNP President Salauddin Babu, General Secretary Abu Ashfaq, Keraniganj Thana President Nipun Roy Chowdhury among others, gave speech on the occasion.
