Idol of Ganesha recovered from AL leader’s house

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered a 28-kg stone idol of a Hindu god from the residence of a local Awami League leader at Betgari village in Raninagar upazila on Saturday night.
BGB also arrested Raninagar Upazila AL Unit organizing secretary Abdul Arif Ranga , 46, son of late Azim Uddin of the village.
Being tipped-off that Arif was holding on to the precious idol with the intention of profiting from it, a BGB team headed by Deputy Commander of BGB-16 Major ATM Ahsan, with the help of Executive Magistrate Md Salim and police seized the idol, said to be of Ganesha, and arrested Arif from the house on Saturday night.
Lt Col Khademul Bashar, Commander of BGB-16 said BGB men handed over Arif to Raninagar Police Station on Saturday night, and a case was filed against him under the Special Powers Act.
The idol worth around TK 28 lakhs will soon be sent to Archeological museum, he added.
