A financing agreement of SDR 10.30 million, equivalent to $ 15 million has been signed between the Government of Bangladesh and the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Group Division to implement the technical project named “National Strategy for the Development of Statistics (NSDS) Implementation Support Project”.
The agreement was signed Thursday at the NEC-2 Conference Room of Economic Relations Division. The project will be implemented by Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) under the Statistics and Information Division of Ministry of Planning, reports UNB.
Kazi Shofiqul Azam, Secretary, Economic Relation Division and Mr. Qimiao Fan, Country Director of World Bank Dhaka office, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective sides. Senior officials of the government and the World Bank were present at the ceremony.
The objectives of the projects will be improving the coordination of management of Statistical Activities to produce accurate, reliable and international standard statistics; developing Human Resource and Information Communication Technology (ICT) Infrastructure to produce and manage data; improving the coverage and quality of core statistics required for policymaking and promoting and strengthening access to and use of official statistics.
The loan will be received in standard terms and conditions of IDA, which includes 0.75% service charge on disbursed amount. Commitment fee is 0.5% on undisbursed amount but World Bank has kept commitment fee suspended for several years.
