ICT takes war crimes charges against eight into cognizance

The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 on Sunday took the charges of crimes against humanity pressed by the prosecution against Jatiya Party lawmaker MA Hannan and seven others from Mymensingh into cognizance.
“The tribunal has took the five charges into cognizance and set February 1 for passing further order in this regard,” said prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chemon.
Apart from Hannan, the other accused are Hannan’s son Rafique Sajjad, 62, Khandakar Golam Sabbir Ahmed, 69, Mizanur Rahman Mintu, 63, Hormuj Ali, 73, Mohammad Abdus Sattar, 64, Mohammad Fakruzzaman, 61, and Khandakar Golam Rabbani, 63. Of them, Fakruzzaman, Sattar and Rabbani are still on the run.
The prosecution brought charges of genocide, murder, confinement and torture against the accused.
The investigation agency of the tribunal on July 11, 2016, finalized their probe report against the eight, bringing five charges of crimes against humanity against the accused. The ICT probe body submitted the report to the prosecution the next day.
